Off-Broadway Tours is led by a longtime Fukuoka resident with more than 30 years of local experience. No crowded buses. No rigid scripts. Just a private guide and your curiosity.

The Hakata Food Challenge

How adventurous are your taste buds?

Fukuoka is a food lover's paradise. Yet its most fascinating dishes are rarely on a typical menu. Discover Japan one unexpected bite at a time.

Rich Hakata style motsunabe. Spicy mentaiko. Fermented natto. Delicate seafood. Feeling brave? Ask about fugu, the famous pufferfish, served only by licensed professionals.

You set the comfort level. Your guide shares the story behind every dish. Because the best travel stories start with: "I can't believe I actually tried that!"

History you can walk through

The magic of Old Hakata.

Wander the oldest streets in the city with someone who knows the story behind every corner. Find hidden temples and shrines. Trace the history of matcha and Japan's beloved noodles. Stop for a bowl of udon beside the locals.

Step into a 300 year old family tea shop. Explore the winding Kawabata shopping arcade. Stand before an extraordinary wooden Buddha and learn the traditions behind the centuries old Yamakasa Festival.

You do not just learn this history. You walk through it. You taste it.

Your guide

Meet Luis.

Fukuoka has been home for more than 30 years. Luis knows the quiet alleys, the family shops, and the stories behind them. He will make a new city feel familiar.

He is also the founder of Off Broadway, the Fukuoka hometown bar that opened in 1993 as the city's first New York style bar. For three decades it has hosted birthdays, weddings, DJ nights and long dinners, and "Kampai" is how it welcomes everyone through the door. Luis brings that same welcome to every tour.

Off Broadway Park Cafe.

After more than 30 years of Off Broadway, Luis has opened a new chapter inside Tenjin Street Park. It is a cafe with the same hometown welcome: comfort food, family style cooking and a room that feels like someone's living room.

Think fall off the bone ribs, a jerk chicken leg that is bigger than it has any right to be, Ethnic Food Wednesdays and, over at the Tenjin bar, burgers, DJ nights and plenty of Kampai moments.
